Random

Playing dress up.  She is finicky about things and hated the wings, but we got them on just to try.  So who knows... She sure does like being a princess... oh boy!

Here is a park we found near our new house.  This is now Reagan's favorite place!  It is near the college with a bell tower so we can hear it gong and I love it!  It reminds me of San Diego and Balboa Park towers or whatever chimed and dinged over there...

I am sure that I would have loved being rocked in this too!

So happy!

There were giggles galore here!

Really, he was having fun!  I promise!  He still doesn't smile much!  Big stinker!

Here is sad Taylor... He came home telling me he had a bad day!  If you can just imagine a day with "Alexander, and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day," this was Taylor.  It rained and was freezing, he didn't eat his lunch (because it was too messy!,) he got ran over in gym and fell on his bottom, and it hurt!, someone took his place in line for parent pick-up, and on and on.  He REALLY wants me to take him out of school!  It never ends!  We are working on things with the teacher to try and combat this, we will see how things work themselves out.  I told him that he could where his footed PJ's since it was freezing outside and rainy!  Still not so happy... hmm.

Pumpkin Patch 2012

Boy what I would give to have one of these in our backyard.  It is one of those bouncing pillows, things.  Reagan doesn't get off of the all 4's position, but she still has a blast!  Trent, although he is too small for this, screamed and hollered because he didn't get a turn.  I held him on the bottom of it and he squirmed in my arms to get away.  He wanted to be in the middle of it with the rest of the kids.

It won't be long before I can send all the kids onto this and let them get so tired after bouncing forEVER!

I wanted a turn!

He is such a big help.

Too bad there was a time limit...  sigh!

And the animals came to take off Trent's arm...

Just kidding!  They weren't fooled, he didn't have any food.

But his sister did.

Now for the rides.

Does daddy think he is really going to fit in there???  Yeah, okay>?!

Mommy will go instead, but it was hard for me to fit!

Can't take pictures without crazy faces!!!

Grandma Kim, Grandpa Matt, and Aunt Kristen wait with popsicles, cameras and more tickets for more rides... YEAH!  We are having a blast!

Picking out pumpkins.

Taylor got the fat pumpkin for mommy and a skinny big one for daddy.

Trent was ALL OVER THE PLACE.

You can't keep him still!

Pumpkins

Everyone gets a kick out of these...  We liked them because we could let the kids decorate and it wasn't messy at all!  Oh and they are reusable, the pumpkins don't rot, and if I wanted to cook with them, I still can.  We also have, which you can't see, lights around the door and other decorations.  We opted for not much and had fun doing what little we did decorate with.  Some of the neighbors have spiders on their lawn and witches and signage... Taylor was so disappointed that we didn't decorate so when we finally got these pumpkins out on the front porch he was a little more pleasant.  Maybe I need to tell him we don't need to "Keep up with the Joneses."

Taylor time~

IMG_0306 a video by tibbsmamatibbs on Flickr.

Here we go, to a clip of my monkey do~ He is getting really good at his scriptures and was a little upset that he didn't get his patch tonight. We thought he was going to get it. Bummer! He is more upset that he has to wait a whole week to get it! Anyway, hope you enjoy the video. If you want to know how we memorize, I will be posting on that in the near future. You will just have to wait and see.

Scope is telling~

Well, the scope is telling.  By the way, I liked the doctor.  I was a bit apprehensive, but when he came in he was great with developing repoire with Reagan and so I was at ease.  She acted shy, and sadly had no way of knowing what we were going to do.  We went over history and thankfully I brought in a copy of the latest swallow study, considering they didn't receive the fax.  Well, I am over it.  Anyway, I had to hold R securely in my lap as we did a scope to look at her vocal cords which revealed that the left side had no movement at all.  The doctor said it was paresis, but if you held a gun to his head, (his words) that he would say that it was paralyzed completely.  He said that by her age (in development) weakened cords would have fixed themselves by now.  He is under the suspicion that the laryngeal nerve, which is on the left side and near the site of her surgical repair, is either stunned or completely damaged.  He asked if I heard Reagan rasping for air and I said every night but that she always sounded that way so it wasn't alarming.  However, I thought it was just a noise.  He asked if I had ever had her do a sleep test.  Oh great?!  No, but now I am concerned.  Anyway, the most crucial thing at this point is that we need to fix the opening so that she isn't as defensive with her throat and eating and may breath better at night.  We are waiting for scheduling to call us back because the ENT wants us to get into the Operating Room ASAP.  The idea is to only have her under anesthesia one time and complete in the following order:  MRI of her head and neck, to see muscles and brain activity to see if there is something not sending the correct signal to her throat muscles; an laryngeal EMG:

Laryngeal Electromyography (EMG)

Laryngeal electromyography (EMG) is a diagnostic exam that evaluates the health of the vocal cord muscles and the nerves that control them by measuring muscle electrical activity. This test is most commonly performed to determine the cause of muscle weakness, as well as to predict recovery from vocal cord paralysis and other related conditions.
During the EMG exam, thin needle electrodes are inserted through the skin and into the muscle, where they detect electrical activity while the vocal cord muscle is at rest and contracting. Patients may experience mild pain when the electrodes are inserted, but this is tolerable for most. This test is usually performed in conjunction with a nerve conduction velocity test;
and finally an injection:

Injection Laryngoplasty

Vocal cord paralysis is a common condition that involves a malfunction in one or both of the vocal cords, resulting in a weakened voice and symptoms such as difficulty swallowing or breathing, as well as coughing. Injection laryngoplasty restores bulk to the affected vocal cord(s) and allows both sides to once again come together to effectively produce a strong vocal sound. This procedure involves the injection of a material, such as fat, collagen or calcium hydroxylapatite, through the skin and into the vocal cord. Most patients achieve effective symptom relief from this procedure.

The last thing, the injection will be sort of like BOTOX, acting like a filler so that there is some closure and we can protect her airways and see if that might help.  Shortly after this injection, we will go in for yet another radiology appointment and have another swallow study done.  If the injection works, then just like BOTOX, she will have to get injections routinely.  If this doesn't seem to work then we will have to explore other options.  Either way, R is not out of the water and at least we were able to have some answers and we got a good DR. to explain things and we saw the imaging.  That was great.  Now I can, with some understanding help R and together with the therapists help her to get stronger in eating and speaking areas.

I will continue to post updates.

The Goings On at the Tibbs' House

Tonight, I will try and catch up and tell you what the last week has been like.  BUSY!  Oh, well, you all already know that.  So, beside being busy, what else is there.

Tomorrow morning, we must drive Taylor to school in order to then leave immediately to an appointment that Reagan has for ENT across town (45 minute drive), where they will do a quick scope with a camera down her nose to get a clear view of her vocal cords.  We are interested in looking at the left vocal cord to see if it is paralyzed?  (Which this is most likely not the case.)  Or it is weak.  Is Reagan over compensating for said weakness or paralysis or is she sustaining normal activities with no awareness?  In the swallow study that she recently had, she aspirated, with no coughing.  That means that liquid penetrated her lungs, and she had no reaction.  This is alarming, considering at anytime, she can inhale and get an infection.  I can do all I can, but Reagan, unbeknownst to me can get sick even despite all of my efforts to help her.  Anyway, speech therapy will continue but help Reagan with muscle work in her throat and mouth.  She has a low tone throughout her body and so it even translates to a low tone in muscles in and around all of the necessary muscles required for speech.  I will have to learn how to massage and push her palate, tongue, and cheeks to obtain movement that she isn't getting enough of.  We have to practice deep breathing, blowing, coughing, ect.  I will try and get pictures of her doing various activities to update you.

Taylor, is busy with school these days, but even though he is busy he still is a ball of energy when he comes home.  He has begged me for a good while now, everyday, about it being his last day of school. He reports that he makes kids laugh and that he is a good student and loves math and learning his literature, and that mostly all the kids in his class are nice.  There are a few, that are over and over being very disruptive and they threaten the order of the class.  He doesn't like that they are disruptive and he wants me to homeschool him as a result.  I have told him that he won't see his friends to which he doesn't seem to mind.  He said that we can just have play dates with our little neighbor friend that we have started walking to and from school with everyday.  He enjoys horseback riding and AWANA program at church and so there is enough for him to be busy.  I told him that I would be hard on him and that I wouldn't have 23 other students to concentrate on so I would have a lot of expectations.  He says he understands and would be ready for it.  I have asked if he would keep trying and pray for and encourage those disruptive kids to be good and try to be their friends.  Still, he gets upset about it and I have to talk to the teacher at parent teacher conference about it.  He mentioned that he wanted to be home schooled to the teacher too.  He also struggles with wanting to be all grown up.  He doesn't want to take naps, but on the days that we don't have him nap, he gets headaches so bad and usually skips dinner.  I have to ask him to just take a quick rest to revive himself.  He is so sensitive so we have many delays and so we are working on time management and consequences due to choices we make whether they be good or bad.  We are working very hard at reading and math and writing and he LOVES taking the dry erase board everywhere we go.  He is a budding artist too.  Mostly, the dry erase board serves so many purposes that I love it as much as he does.  We play games in the car on it, all that he has invented, of course.  He loves to draw on it and he loves to do math on it.  I must say that I am thrilled that it isn't electronic!!!  AND that it is quiet!  We do other things with him to encourage learning and we are just as excited to participate with him.  We play UNO, which he would love to play everyday all day if we let him.  Reagan likes to sit in my lap when we play so maybe she is silently learning too.  I am looking into doing an art program at a local Art Museum with him and we hope to get him involved with exploring at some of the other museums of science and history.  We just were sharing with him the idea about going to see the Mummy exhibit at one of the museums and his interest perked since he thought they were fake.  I explained that while the idea that they traipse around and chase you with swinging wraps, is false, they are real and historical.  People just like to glamorize things that appeal to our senses and make us afraid.  It is thrilling.  He thought about it and was interested in this whole new thing.  Wow!  Anyway, I must get some video of him for you to see.  He is turning out to be a cute genius!

Trent, well, he is growing fast!  He is walking all over the place and ready to run!  His walking is reminiscent of Frankenstein, though.  He is so funny!  He still screams A LOT!  This last week he has been sick with diarrhea for going on 6 days.  It got so bad, that his diaper area was raw and he would shriek in pain.  Poor guy!  It has been miserable for him!  We took him to the ER on Saturday morning but they said, (and I am shocked by this) that they are only concerned with diarrhea if it has continued for 2 weeks.  What???  They also said that he wouldn't need an IV because he was able to produce tears.  WHAT??  He is in utter misery!!!  So, I have done the best I can and so has Case to buy everything on the BRAT diet and use no wipes at all and change frequently and bathe, bathe, bathe.  We are going through pedialite, and bananas and baths are several a day.  I have had to change his linens so much and sadly have ignored the other laundry.  I hope to get him well soon!  We still have to go in for his one year old vaccinations and he probably caught something from daycare.

On another note, daycare.  Well, we are going to withdraw both children from where they are currently.  Trent and his sickness has been the final straw.  Reagan has experienced issue since the beginning, and now Trent.  I have begun looking into other options for care since I will start school soon.  I hope to find the right place for them both.  Reagan used to love her school in Georgia!  Trent, well, he is okay sometimes, but I want to find something where they both have a great reaction to.  I hope to find something soon.

Case, still will be doing things with Kellogg's and tomorrow, he will be signing autographs on base at a commissary.  I know that most of you never saw his cereal box and now we believe that you probably wont.  Sorry!  We don't have any answers to that one.

Lastly, me, I am starting school with just an online course for now and then next semester I will go full time.  My intention is to go to a private university and receive help through the Yellow Ribbon Program.  I must meet with the advisor with said private university soon.  I can't wait to get in and finish!

That is all for now.  Sorry, no pictures are included.  Sorry, I have been so wordy!  Oh well.  I hope that you forgive me for not being available for phone calls either.  I will be more diligent about regular postings.  Bye, bye.
